Phoebe
Price was a 15 year old girl who committed suicide after months of being
bullied and harassed by other students. The students bullied her at school, Facebook,
and while she was walking home. In one of the incidents a girl threw a pop can
at her. Even after she hung herself in her house they continued to bully her on
Facebook. Numerous faculty members, teachers, and administrators at South
Hadley High School even witnessed the physical abuse and did nothing to change
it. Two males that were involved in the bulling and harassment received charges
of statutory rape.
Bulling
should not be accepted at schools or anywhere. Every day student are bullied
and harassed at school, and I do not believe that schools are doing enough fair
punishment to make it stop. I believe the school did not do enough to protect Phoebe
Price from being bullied and harassed. I think it is very sad that this happen
to students and that some teacher are aware of it and do nothing.

I completely agree with you that schools are not doing what they can to help those that are being bullied at school. I did a research on bullying last year and what I found out completely shocked me. People would hack into somebody's account and post mean comments through them or they would post something mean on their walls. Bullying mostly happens online, because the people who bully cannot be seen so it's easier for them. There are a lot of help lines out their but they don't help as much because suicide rates among those that are who are bullied is increasing.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad how bullies still continue to bully those that have died. It shows no respect.
Shawn I'm really glad you chose this story. It is so sad how bullying has grown. I remember being bullied in school, in person not online, so the person had to have some nerve to able to confront me (or anyone). With having sites like Facebook creating a virtual world, has empowered people to speak freely regardless of how it affects another person. I agree one hundred percent that the school Phoebe attended did not do enough. How can a teacher see a student being harassed and do nothing? Growing up these are the people we were taught to trust and bring our problems to, besides our own family. I’m happy that some of these bullies were charged. However, it should not have taken a death of a young girl to address the issue. Bullying has become so bad, all the stories I have seen shows that it doesn’t matter what race or age you are, it is prevalent among everyone. I really hope schools are learning from this horrible event. School faculty need to take initiative to help students they see five out of seven days a week. What is it going to really take to stop the bullying? Parents also need to pay attention to the way their children are behaving, not just brushing it off as they are "just being kids". It would be so nice to see all these children/teenagers come together and not be so judgmental. If they gave it a chance they would learn so much from each other’s different lives. Hopefully learning how to support their peers instead of bullying them.
